Alastair Richardson is one of the pre-eminent sports and public architects in Asia Pacific, widely recognised for his ability to balance functional complexity with elegant, enduring design. A Director at COX, he leads the visioning and delivery of major public venues and civic projects across Australia, Asia Pacific and Europe.

With more than three decades’ experience, Alastair has shaped a significant portfolio of award-winning projects—from national stadiums and Olympic arenas to independent schools and urban masterplans. These include Optus Stadium, Adelaide Oval, Allianz Stadium, and the long-term campus redevelopment of Scotch College.

A strategic thinker as much as a designer, Alastair is known for helping clients see beyond the immediate brief—unlocking new opportunities through clarity, dialogue, and design intelligence. His approach is grounded in collaboration, craft, and a belief in architecture’s role in social connection and legacy.

Respected for his candour, curiosity and deep knowledge of public building typologies, Alastair brings a thoughtful, purposeful energy to every project. He is a regular contributor to international design conversations and continues to advocate for public architecture that is resilient, inclusive and made to last.
